MVP’s Founder and Managing Partner, Scott Hales, has nearly 30 years of financial, operational, and strategic advisory experience across several dynamic service and manufacturing sectors.  He has spent the last decade in the CFO role – serving both entrepreneurial founders as well as the publicly-traded and private equity investors that acquired the privately-owned, middle-market companies.  The breadth of his domain expertise, combined with a proven ability to execute both strategically and tactically from the finance chair, have made him a valuable leader and significant contributor on his executive and principal investor teams.

Previously, he worked at M&A advisory firms Metronome Partners and Citi Capital Strategies (division of Citigroup®), where he completed 36 M&A, recapitalization, and capital raising transactions valued at US$1 billion in the aggregate.  Scott’s background also includes entrepreneurship/business ownership – having co-founded, operated, and successfully exited a real estate management services business.

Scott started his career with NatWest Markets in the corporate and investment banking group.  He earned his Bachelor of Business Administration (double major: Business Management and Spanish) at the University of Notre Dame, and his MBA in Accounting and Entrepreneurship from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management.

John joined MVP in February 2021 as Partner, bringing with him over 30 years of business development, client relationship-building, new product development, and strong revenue growth results. His extensive experience spans a number of vertical markets, with a concentration in the information and financial industries. He has spent the last 20 years in executive roles on the client-facing side of publicly traded companies, privately-owned businesses, and private equity/investor groups. John has a proven track record in an operational capacity as well, having built and managed large P&Ls, divisions, and front/back-office teams, with a particular ability to identify and develop the right individuals for the right roles. His capabilities and achievements at fostering profitable top-line growth in the middle-market realm are the critical strengths behind his leadership as CEO within MVP’s Search Fund platform, seeking attractive niche companies to acquire and expand.

John started his career at West Publishing Company in the Sales, Client Contracts, and Customer Service division. He spent more than 15 years at Thomson Reuters (NYSE: TRI), following its acquisition of West, and was instrumental in executing TRI’s subsequent acquisition and market penetration strategies as it built its legal online services and subscription base into a $2BN+ (revenue) division.

Most recently, John has spent the past 12 years serving as the Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer for a leading, private middle-market B2B outsourced services provider. John was instrumental in growing revenues to help the business more than triple in size, and in the last year he and the other executive team members participated in the successful transition to private equity ownership.

John earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree at the University of St. Thomas, and his J.D. from the Mitchell Hamline School of Law.
